Will there
be an end of the World and, if so, when will it be?
The Scripture teaches that
history does not continue forever in vain, but history moves toward a
point; that point is the day in which God will reveal Himself to
mankind. This revealing will include judgment on the wicked and the
resurrection of God's people. God will also show that He has visited
the world before; the world will again see that the humble man of
Galilee, Jesus, but this time he will come in glory.
Although this may sound
fantastic to an unbeliever, the revealing of God should be expected.
After all, isn’t it the critic who says “Where is God?” and "Why
doesn't He show Himself?" Even the prophet Isaiah said “Oh,
that You would rend the heavens and come down” (Isaiah 64:1)
God will someday rend the
heavens and come down in His chosen time. This world of sin and
injustice is only a temporary state of affairs. God will soon set all
things straight.
2 Peter 3:10-13
10 - But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the
heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be
destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be
burned up.
11 - Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what
sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness,
12 - looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because
of which the heavens will be destroyed by burning, and the elements
will melt with intense heat!
13 - But according to His promise we are looking for new heavens
and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells.
2 Thessalonians 1:7-10
7 - and to give relief to you who are afflicted and to us as well
when the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with His mighty
angels in flaming fire,
8 - dealing out retribution to those who do not know God and to
those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.
9 - These will pay the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the
presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power,
10 - when He comes to be glorified in His saints on that day, and to
be marveled at among all who have believed—for our testimony to you
was believed.
When will this day take
place? Jesus said that there will be some signs to look for, but
nevertheless, it will still come as a surprise.
Matthew 24:32-36
32 - Now learn the parable from the fig tree: when its branch has
already become tender and puts forth its leaves, you know that
summer is near;
33 - So, you too, when you see all these things, recognize that
He is near, right at the door.
34 - Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until
all these things take place.
35 - Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass
away.
36 - But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of
heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone.
